About the course
This innovative Level 2 programme has been designed to provide learners with the opportunity to work as an activity leaders in both coaching and fitness industries. Learners are exposed to industry leading digital technologies, including GPS tracking and movement analysis.
Course content
The programme prepares learners for the working world, engaging them with
external providers, enabling learners to develop entrepreneurial skills within
the working world of sport. The programme is one year long and is tailored to
provide progression opportunities to our Level 3 pathways, whilst also providing
routes directly into employment upon completion. English and maths
qualifications (Functional Skills or GCSE) will be embedded into the
timetable.
The units are a combination of theory and practical work. This course will cover some of the topics below:
- Working in Sport and Activity Leadership
- Sports Coaching
- Leading and Instructing Coaching and Fitness Activities
- Physical and Sport Education in School and Community Settings
Maths & English
English and maths qualifications will be a part of this course package. Learners will have English and maths lectures embedded into their timetable to support their academic development over the programme’s duration.
Employability
Possible careers and salaries include:
- Assistant Sports Coach - £18,000 to £23,000 depending upon experience and qualifications held
- Leisure Centre Assistant - £13,000 to £26,000 depending upon experience and qualifications held
- Receptionist in the Fitness Industry - £17,000 to £22,000 depending upon experience

What do I need to join
Applicants will hold three GCSEs at grade 3, including English and maths.
What can I do next
A large number of our learner’s progress onto our Level 3 programmes in either Sports Coaching or Fitness and Personal Training. Following the successful completion of this qualification, learners could also apply for L3 apprenticeships in the related field. English and maths achievement will play a part in gaining access to these qualifications. Employment options after achievement include the armed forces and customer facing roles in the industry.
