Course content

Gain essential, job-ready skills across a wide range of accounting topics, including:

  • Preparing final accounts for sole traders and partnerships
  • Completing VAT returns and understanding indirect tax
  • Management accounting and costing techniques

  • Using Excel spreadsheets to manage and report financial data

All units are designed to reflect practical scenarios in the workplace, helping you apply your learning immediately.

How is the course delivered and assessed?
This part-time course is taught in the classroom one day per week (6 hours), over 37 weeks. You’ll also complete around 3 hours of self-directed study per week. You’ll learn through interactive tutor sessions, group work, and hands-on activities. Assessment is via five computer-based exams throughout the year – no coursework required.
What do I need to join (Entry Requirements)

A Level 2 qualification in Maths & English and a solid foundation of general education is recommended. Additionally, prior completion of the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting or Bookkeeping is typically required, but we also welcome individuals with relevant industry experience.

Enrolment involves a successful interview and assessment, ensuring the right fit for your aspirations. Don't worry if you lack previous accounting experience; this course is open to all, and any accounting or business background will be advantageous.

Additionally, you will need to join the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) by registering at a cost of £235 and enjoy the benefits of professional membership. Textbooks are purchased separately at a discounted price from Osborne Books. While exam fees (single attempt) are included in the course cost.

What can I do next
After completing the AAT Level 3 Diploma, you can progress to the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting, preparing for higher-level roles such as Assistant Accountant, Finance Officer or progressing to chartered qualifications.
