The computer games industry stands as one of the largest and most dynamic sectors within the global creative industry, with Britain leading the way as a market leader. This UAL Level 3 qualification is ideal if you're aiming to enter the games industry or pursue a career in computer-generated arts. The course emphasises games design practices with the goal of preparing you for a professional creative future and an exciting, rapidly evolving digital industry.
Projects within the course cover a wide array of areas including programming, game art, animation, game design, audio design, user interface and gaming theory. These projects are built around topical and contextual themes, preparing you for the kind of work you will encounter in the future. You'll be encouraged to explore and experiment, build confidence, and apply research, idea generation and reflection to create meaningful projects with a clear audience and purpose in mind.
You’ll work in our state-of-the-art games design suites, equipped with high-spec machines and industry-standard software such as Unreal Engine 5, Maya, Blender, and Construct for beginners. This hands-on experience ensures that you gain practical skills and insights relevant to the games industry.
At least four grade 4s or above including an English or Maths GCSE at grade 4 or above or A relevant Level 2 Diploma and an English or Maths GCSE at grade 4 or above (or Functional Skill Level 2)
Students will receive an invite to an interview, please bring an example of any creative work or scripting.
The progression and career opportunities for learners completing this course are both diverse and flexible, opening pathways to higher education and various creative careers.
The skills developed - such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and practical making - are highly transferable. You might choose to work freelance or join a studio or professional organisation, with potential roles including programmer, animator, game artist, 3D modeler, audio designer, level designer, director or games journalist.
Additionally, you could explore careers in teaching or even professional gaming. The course provides a solid foundation for a wide range of creative and professional possibilities.
