Level 2 Games Design provides a comprehensive introduction to the essential skills required for a career in the games industry and serves as a stepping stone to our Level 3 Games Design programme. The course emphasises research, idea generation and reflective practices to help you tackle real-world design challenges effectively. With a focus on practical, hands-on experience, the curriculum nurtures creativity, encourages experimentation and develops a professional approach to design work.
You will cover a diverse range of topics, including programming, game art, animation, game design and gaming theory. These projects are built around topical and contextual themes, providing a realistic glimpse into the type of work you’ll encounter in the industry. At the end of the year, we’ll have our School of Art exhibition to showcase all the fantastic work our students do.
You'll work in our state-of-the-art games design suites, equipped with high-spec machines and industry-standard software such as Unreal Engine 5, Maya, Blender and Construct for beginners.
At least four grade 3s or above including an English or Maths GCSE at grade 3 or above (or Functional Skill Level 1 or above).

Students will receive an invite to an interview, please bring an example of any creative work or scripting.
Upon completing this course, you will have diverse and flexible progression options, including the opportunity to study a range of Level 3 programmes in Games Design, Fine Art, Design & Communication, Photography, Film & Media, Make-up Artistry or Music.
In the future, after completing further programmes at Level 3 and beyond, you could find yourself working in a wide range of creative industries. The skills you develop in this course - focused on problem-solving, critical thinking, and practical application - are highly transferable. You may work freelance or perhaps as part of a studio or professional organisation. You could be a programmer, animator, game artist, 3d modeller, audio designer, level designer, director, games journalist, or something else creative altogether.
You might even move into teaching or playing games professionally. There are endless possibilities.
