About the course

This online course focuses on the critical early years of childhood and their impact on development. Understanding the importance of attachment and adverse experiences during this period is key to recognising children’s mental health needs.

Children can experience traumatic events in their early years, which may affect their mental health and contribute to issues later in life.

Whether you're starting a career working with young children or already work with them, having a solid understanding of the importance of emotional wellbeing is essential.

Topics covered in this course:

  • Understanding mental health for young children in the early years
  • Recognising the significance of attachment and adverse childhood experiences in early childhood
  • Exploring the role of the Early Years Practitioner in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young children

How is the course delivered and assessed?

Studying via distance learning means you can choose when and where you study, giving you the freedom to choose your learning schedule yourself whilst still gaining certification for your chosen subject.

We recommend spending a minimum of 2-4 hours per week on this course and we recommend completing within 12 weeks.

We appreciate this may be a new way of learning for many of you or there may be some further support required. If you find yourself feeling less than confident and look for additional support, we want to make sure we are there to offer that little bit extra and tailor it to your needs. This may include a phone call or emails with one of our dedicated tutors and support staff to help guide you through your course.
