About the course

The Gateway Level 2 Award in Website Design and Development is an intermediate digital qualification designed for learners who want to build on their existing website design skills. This course develops a deeper understanding of how websites are planned, designed, built and improved for real world use.

You will gain practical experience creating functional websites while developing the technical and creative skills needed for entry level digital roles or further study.

Course content

During the course, learners will develop knowledge and skills in:

  • Understanding website purpose and target audience
  • Website layout, structure and usability
  • Planning and designing a website to meet a client brief
  • Using appropriate tools and technologies to build websites
  • Creating and managing website content
  • Testing, reviewing and refining a completed website

Learners will work through the full website development process, from initial planning through to final evaluation.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

This course is delivered through a blended learning approach, combining:

  • Practical workshops in modern, fully equipped IT suites based at our Filton campus
  • Online learning activities
  • Supported independent study

Assessment is through a Portfolio of Evidence, allowing learners to demonstrate their skills and understanding through practical website development work.

What do I need to join

Applicants should have:

  • Completed the Level 1 Award in Website Design, or
  • Be able to demonstrate equivalent basic knowledge and understanding of website design
