About the course

The Gateway Level 1 Award in Website Design is an introductory qualification designed for adults aged 19 and over who want to develop basic digital and web design skills. This practical course provides a supportive starting point for learners who are new to website design or returning to learning.

You will learn how to plan, create and evaluate a simple website using appropriate tools and techniques. The course focuses on building confidence, creativity and technical awareness, making it ideal for those looking to improve their digital skills for work, further study or personal development.

Course content

Learners will develop an understanding of key web design principles, including:

Planning and designing a simple website
Website layout and structure
Navigation and user experience
Using hyperlinks and interactive features
Reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of a website

Practical workshops in modern, fully equipped IT suites based at our Filton campus
Online learning activities
Supported independent study

Assessment is through a Portfolio of Evidence, allowing learners to demonstrate their skills and understanding through practical website development work.

What do I need to join (Entry Requirements)

This course is aimed at adults aged 19 and over. No formal qualifications are required.

What can I do next

On successful completion, learners can progress to our Level 2 Award in Website Design or entry-level roles in digital or IT-related areas.

This course also helps build confidence and foundational skills for further training or employment involving basic website creation and evaluation.

Advanced Learner Loan Explanation

The Advanced Learner Loan assists adults aged 19 and over in covering tuition costs for Level 3 to Level 6 qualifications. Before applying, individuals are advised to check eligibility for free funding options, as taking the loan may impact future entitlements. Eligibility requires UK residency for at least three years or settled status. For those using the loan for an Access to HE course, the loan balance may be written off upon completion of a higher education degree. Additional eligibility criteria may apply.
