About the course

The Gateway Level 1 Award in Cybersecurity is an entry level course designed for learners who want to understand the basics of staying safe in today’s digital world. As cyber attacks become more common, this course introduces learners to the importance of protecting digital systems, personal information, and organisational data. It provides a strong foundation for anyone interested in progressing into further study in cybersecurity or digital technologies.

Course content

Learners will develop a basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts, including:

  • Cyber threats such as phishing attacks, malware, ransomware, hacking, and identity theft
  • The causes and effects of cyber attacks
  • Risks associated with using digital technologies

How is the course delivered and assessed?

The course is delivered through a blended learning approach, which includes:

  • Practical workshops in modern, fully equipped IT suites based at our Filton campus
  • Online learning activities
  • Supported independent study

Assessment is through a Portfolio of Evidence, based on practical tasks and projects completed throughout the course.

What do I need to join

There are no formal entry requirements, however learners are expected to have a basic understanding of digital technologies.
