About the course
A City & Guilds Level 1 Award in Construction Skills is a foundational, practical qualification giving broad introduction to trades like bricklaying, carpentry, plastering, and electrical work, focusing on essential hand skills, health and safety, and employability to help learners progress to Level 2 courses or apprenticeships in the construction industry or gain basic DIY skills. It offers hands-on experience and underpinning knowledge without formal entry requirements, making it ideal for beginners exploring various construction paths and skills in the construction industry.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
You will attend weekly sessions over 11 weeks at SGS College's brand-new SGS Horizon Construction Campus, you will benefit from a state-of-the-art learning environment equipped with the latest tools and technology. Our experienced instructors, who are experts in the construction industry, will guide you through hands-on learning experiences.
You'll have the opportunity to engage in practical tasks in various trades, including:
Basic skills in Carpentry and Bricklaying and Painting
Basic plumbing and maintenance skills
Basic plastering and patch repair skills
Our workshop-based approach ensures you gain real-world skills that are directly applicable to the construction industry. You will be part of a supportive community of learners, all working towards the same goal of building a solid foundation in construction skills. The course is for women only who want to gain some basic skills of different trades. Individuals interested in working as general operatives or progressing to specific craft skills. Learners looking to gain skills for DIY or enter the industry.

What do I need to join (Entry Requirements)
