Are you keen to study the keeping of animals in captivity, do you want to learn how to train animals or recognise and treat common illnesses? Have you ever wondered why animals have evolved to look or behave in particular ways? Are you interested to learn about animal sector businesses and what running one involves? If so, the level 3 T-level in Animal Management and Behaviour might be for you.
The T-level in Animal Management and Care is a level 3 technical qualification, equivalent to A-levels that is focused on the care and management of captive species in a variety of settings such as zoos, farms, veterinary practices, and businesses such as animal grooming parlours and pet shops. The content is taught with technical skill in mind. This means you will learn the skills and knowledge needed to work in the animal management and care sector.
This is a two-year course and must be completed in full in order to achieve the qualification. You will make extensive use of our purpose-built Animal Education Centre, taking ownership for the care and management of species such as Gambian pouch rats, red crested turacos, tortoises, fish, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and many more.
This Level 3 course is based at our Filton campus, located in South Gloucestershire which is easily accessible from the city of Bristol by train (Bristol Parkway / Bristol Abbey Wood) and bus.
You will need to have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 5 or above to include English, maths and the sciences. A keen desire to work in the animal sector and fully engage with all aspects of the care and management of captive species is very important.
Applications from those with a merit or above in a BTEC Level 2 Technical Diploma or City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma/Technical Certificate in Animal Care will also be considered.
An academic reference will be requested following application and should be provided by your current school or college.
It is expected that students who have successfully completed the T-Level in Animal Management and Behaviour will possess the skills and knowledge needed to work in a variety of jobs in the animal sector. You will be in a strong position to apply for entry-level positions or apprenticeships in such sectors as veterinary nursing, zookeeping, animal conservation, pet shops, animal grooming and farm work.
Alternatively, you may wish to progress to higher education and continue your studies on a foundation degree or bachelor of science degree in subjects such as animal welfare, zoo animal management and animal behaviour.
