Course content

You will learn a range of key techniques essential for modern barbering, including:

  • Cutting and styling men’s hair
  • Drying and finishing techniques
  • Facial hair shaping and beard trimming
  • Outlining and detailing for sharp, clean finishes
  • Client consultation and professional standards

Through hands-on training, you'll also develop customer service skills, confidence, and the ability to tailor styles to client needs—preparing you for real-world salon environments.

How is the course delivered and assessed?
Throughout the course, you'll enhance your employability skills by practicing on peers before delivering services to paying clients. Assessment will be ongoing, utilising a variety of methods such as written assignments, online tests, practical assessments with paying clients, oral questioning, and building a comprehensive portfolio of evidence.
What do I need to join (Entry Requirements)
Applicants must be aged 19 or over with a professional and mature attitude to learning. Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to developing practical skills are essential. While three GCSEs at grade 3 (D), including English Language, are preferred, we also welcome applicants who can demonstrate the ability to work at the required level.
What can I do next
On successful completion, you can progress into employment in a barbershop, start an apprenticeship, or continue your training with a Level 3 qualification in barbering or hairdressing. Your tutor will provide guidance on the best route for your goals.

Before the course begins, you’ll need to purchase a barbering kit and uniform (details will be provided upon enrolment).
