Are you interested in exploring the world of hair and beauty? The Level 1 Certificate in VTCT Hair & Beauty Studies could be the right course for you. This one-year programme is designed as an exciting introduction to the hairdressing industry, helping you develop practical skills, confidence, and an understanding of customer service in a professional setting.
During the course, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a range of essential hair and beauty techniques, including:
Shampooing and conditioning hair
Blow drying and styling
Plaiting and basic hair techniques
Alongside practical skills, the programme places a strong emphasis on developing your communication, professionalism, and customer service skills, giving you a well-rounded introduction to the industry.
A key requirement for future progression and employment is a good understanding and application of knowledge and skills in both English and maths.
Learners who are enrolled on this course will also, as part of their overall programme of study, be enrolled on either Functional Skills or GCSE programmes in English and Maths in order to progress towards gaining GCSE grade 4 in both subjects.
As well as having a keen interest in the subject area, learners will need to possess GCSE grade 2 in Maths and in English
Learners will need to demonstrate an enthusiasm for learning and taking on new ideas and skills.
Learners who successfully complete will be eligible for progression onto a Level 2 programme of study or an apprenticeship in a related discipline.
Further career options depend on the route you take at Levels 2 and 3, and include: hair technician, beauty consultant, salon stylist/therapist, freelance hair and make-up artist, complementary therapies practitioner, mobile spa/hairdresser, cruise line worker or hospice/care home worker.
Sports academies are available only to applicants aged 16-18.
