About the course

<p> This one-day practical workshop takes place at Bristol School of Art and focuses on upcycling techniques to help students refresh and personalise an old pair of jeans. The course explores how creativity, repair, and decoration can play a part in more sustainable fashion. </p> <p> Designed for adult learners, the workshop offers a relaxed and supportive environment where students can slow down, enjoy the making process, and work confidently with materials they already own. By the end of the day, students will take home a refreshed garment shaped by their own ideas and style. </p>

Course content
<p> During the workshop, students will learn about the history of denim and its role in everyday clothing, and explore how simple repair and decoration can extend the life of garments. Students will have the opportunity to try basic screen-printing techniques and learn the fundamentals of Sashiko stitching, a traditional hand-sewn technique that is ideal for mending or adding character to clothing. </p> <p> Students will also experiment with simple mending and embellishment methods and create sample pieces to take home. If time allows, there may be an opportunity to try basic dyeing techniques. </p>
What do I need to join (Entry Requirements)
<p> Applicants must be 19 years of age or over at the start of the academic year. No previous experience is required, and the course is suitable for all abilities. </p>

<p> Students will need to provide an old pair of jeans to work on during the workshop. </p>
