About the course

Discover the exciting world of surface design in this 5-week course where you will develop your own pattern designs and apply them to homeware products. Perfect for creative individuals who want to explore textiles, print, and decorative techniques, this course will help you build a portfolio of designs that can be used for personal projects, career progression, or further study.

Course content

Over 5 weeks, you will:

  • Experiment with drawing and mark-making techniques to generate unique pattern designs

  • Explore colour palettes to enhance and inform your designs

  • Learn how to apply your patterns using surface design techniques such as decal transfers, screen printing, and sublimation printing

  • Develop a final collection of designs suitable for application on homeware products

You will leave the course with a personal portfolio of designs and the confidence to apply your new skills to future creative projects

How is the course delivered and assessed?
This course is taught face-to-face in a supportive and creative workshop environment. Each session includes practical demonstrations, guided activities, and individual support from the tutor. There is no formal assessment - your progress will be measured through the designs you create and the confidence you gain in using surface design techniques.

These courses are delivered under the government Tailored Learning Scheme. They are limited to one Wellbeing course per term (excluding online) The courses are part-funded and therefore means / benefit tested, and fees may still apply.
