About the course

If your ambition is to study medicine, veterinary science, dentistry, or related healthcare disciplines at university, the Access to Medicine course provides the perfect foundation.

This one year intensive programme is designed specifically for mature students (aged 19+) who are returning to education or seeking a career change into the medical and healthcare professions. Delivered by experienced subject specialists, this pathway prepares you academically and practically for the demands of medical-related degree programmes.

Course content

You will study a range of essential scientific subjects and academic skills, including:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Study and research skills

The course comprises 45 graded Level 3 credits in core scientific subjects and 15 ungraded credits focused on academic development, including research, critical thinking, essay writing, and exam preparation. The curriculum is designed to develop your understanding of medical science, alongside the analytical and communication skills essential for healthcare professionals.

How is the course delivered and assessed?
The course is delivered in a blended format with three days per week in college and one day of online learning. Assessment methods are varied and include essays, written reports, exams, and presentations, providing a well-rounded approach that reflects the assessment styles used in higher education. You will receive regular feedback and support throughout the academic year to guide your development and track your progress.
