South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS) is proud to celebrate an outstanding year of GCSE and Level 2 results, reaffirming its reputation for excellence in education, student support, and inclusive learning.

This summer, over 2,000 learners received their results, with many now progressing to Level 3 study, apprenticeships, or entering the workforce. These achievements are a testament to the resilience, ambition, and dedication of our students, supported every step of the way by our passionate and expert staff.

Among the highlights are the remarkable outcomes from SGS Create, our specialist 14–16 Centre. Designed for students who thrive outside mainstream education, SGS Create combines tailored support with state-of-the-art facilities. This year, students at SGS Create excelled in English, Maths and Science, and in their choice of creative subjects—an extraordinary accomplishment given many joined us after struggling in traditional school settings.

  • The GCSE English pass rate at SGS is 12.6% above the national average.
  • The GCSE Maths pass rate at SGS is 10.6% above the national average.
  • The pass rate for all Level 2 qualifications is 2.6% above the national average.

But these results are more than numbers—they represent life-changing journeys:

Moas Ghazalah

Moas Ghazalah, who arrived in the UK from Syria in 2016, achieved a Merit in Level 2 Plumbing and Grade 4 in GCSE Maths. He now begins a plumbing apprenticeship with Merretts Heating.

"I’m very happy with my results. The teachers are brilliant and supportive. They make learning fun and easy to understand," Moas shared.

Olivia Hamilton, formerly home-schooled, earned top grades including a 7 in Combined Science and a 6 in English and Maths. She now embarks on an engineering apprenticeship with SLB in Stonehouse.

"I feel relieved and happy. My tutors have been so supportive. My advice? Study hard—the results will pay off."

Carla Barnes and Jade Dulare

Jade Dulare, returning to education after 23 years, passed GCSE English Language with a Grade 6, inspired by her daughter.

"Emotional, elated, and super proud," she said, reflecting the power of a nurturing learning environment.

Deputy Principal Gavin Murray commented:

"We are incredibly proud of our GCSE and Level 2 students for the resilience they’ve shown throughout their studies. These results reflect not only their hard work and determination but also the unwavering support of our staff. For many, today marks the beginning of exciting new opportunities—whether continuing their journey with us, starting apprenticeships, or stepping into their chosen careers. We wish every student the very best and look forward to seeing them thrive."

SGS remains committed to supporting all learners, including those who may not have achieved the outcomes they hoped for. Late Applicant Information, Advice & Guidance (IAG) Sessions begin on 1st September. To book, visit www.sgscol.ac.uk/lateiag.
