Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

This role involves working closely with a supervisor and following guidance to complete tasks to a high standard.

  • Reliability, honesty and the ability to work well as part of a team are essential
  • A genuine interest in developing skills within the trade is important. In return, full work‑based training will be provided in areas such as wallpaper hanging, specialist paint finishes, and traditional techniques that are now less common, including painting sash windows
  • The role includes preparing work areas safely, using dust sheets and protecting furniture and surrounding surfaces. Responsibilities also involve identifying and resolving common issues with surface coatings and wall coverings, as well as preparing and stripping surfaces using a range of methods, including abrasives, chemical treatments, power sanding, and heat or liquid techniques
  • Good time management and organisational skills are required to ensure high‑quality work is delivered within agreed timescales

Your training plan

Successful candidates will work towards industry training standards, including SVQ/NVQ Painter and Decorator Level 2 qualification. Your training will be enhanced through the provision of additional in-company training and support from a student mentor and team.

College attendance will be block release 1 in 5/6 weeks.

You will receive a basic tool kit and all workwear and PPE kit will be provided.
