Summary

This A-level-equivalent qualification is designed to supply learners with the necessary skills and knowledge required to progress into higher education.

Modules covered may include public service skills, improving health and fitness, land navigation and expedition skills.

What do I need to join?

Applicants must have studied at GCSE level and achieved 5 grade 4 (C) GCSEs or above, inclusive of Maths, English Language and PE, as well as demonstrating (at interview and a College taster day) an enthusiasm for the industry and a keen motivation to learn.

How will I know how I am doing?

Learners will be assigned a personal tutor, who, alongside other delivery staff on the programme, will monitor progress on the course in relation to work submission, attendance, behaviour and punctuality, as well as progress against a learner's individual targets.

Maths & English

As part of the programme, learners will undertake Maths and English Language GCSE qualifications to work towards achieving GCSE grade 4 (C) in both by the end of the course. Opportunities to upskill in both maths and English will be provided and feedback given to learners on areas of strength and areas for improvement.

Employability

Employability plays an important role in this programme and the course units are specifically selected to allow learners to experience what it is like to work in the public services sector. We also invite guest speakers from the public services sector to come in and present. Learners have the opportunity to work with the public services sector and the local community, as well as participating in events with local services.

Work Experience

All learners will undertake a period of work experience that must be industry related and should enhance the progression opportunities of the learner by demonstrating their willingness to be involved in, and gain a greater understanding of, the public services sector.

What can I do next?

Learners who successfully complete this qualification can progress into higher education. Alternatively, learners may progress into employment within the sector.

What are my career options?

There are many jobs in the uniformed public services open to learners upon completion of this programme.
