Summary

The Association for Project Management, the chartered body for the project profession, is committed to developing and promoting project and programme management through its FIVE Dimensions of Professionalism. In 2017, APM was awarded a Royal Charter as part of its strategy to raise awareness and standards in the profession. The award-winning association has over 30,000 individual members and more than 500 organisations participating in the Corporate Partnership Programme making it the largest professional body of its kind in Europe.

The APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ), is a knowledge-based qualification developed by APM, the chartered body for the project professional. Upon successful completion of the PMQ candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of how these elements interact and how their project fits into the strategic and commercial environment. PMQ is an internationally recognised qualification.

The qualification is aimed at those wishing to achieve a broad level of project management knowledge sufficient to participate in projects from individual assignments through to large capital projects.

During the course, candidates will cover the following; Project management and the operating environment, Project life cycle, Management structures by which projects operate, Project management planning, Scope management, Scheduling and resource management, Risk management and issue management, Project equality management, Communication, Leadership and teamwork.

How will I learn?

Learning will take place primarily in a classroom environment with the opportunity to use case studies and tutorial-based exercises. Computer-based testing is used for assessment of all units, with mock exams taking place during classroom sessions. 

Elements of this course will also be taught remotely. The chosen platform for this course is Microsoft Teams. Teams allows learners and teachers to seamlessly work together, create content and share resources from a single, easy-to-learn and simple platform. On successful enrolment onto this course, you will be provided with all the details required to set up Teams.

The PMQ is assessed through a three-hour written examination, where candidates must answer ten from sixteen questions.  Dates, Times and all necessary information will be provided at the start of the course. 

Previous work

Entry Requirements

Candidates require a level 2 in Maths & English (A to C Grade GCSE or equivalent), and a good standard of general education. Additonal support to obtain these can be provided if required. A successful interview and assessment will be required prior to enrolling.

Applicants typically have some pre-existing project management knowledge, and it is the ideal next step for anyone holding the APM Project Fundamentals (PFQ) qualification.
