Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Summary

Supported Internships provide a structured study and employment programme for young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities who would like to move into employment. Learners are based in our unit at the Galleries Shopping Centre in Bristol two days a week where they are supported by a tutor and job coach to develop employment skills and engage in a variety of work placements. Interns will engage in a work placement for between 1-3 days a week.. The aim of these internships is to gain paid work.

Learners will study maths and English, as well as employability and personal and social development skills.

This course is based at our Filton campus, located in South Gloucestershire which is easily accessible from the city of Bristol by train (Bristol Parkway / Bristol Abbey Wood) and bus.

How will I know how I am doing?

Learners will meet with their personal tutor on a regular basis in order to review progress and agree targets so that progress can be measured and learners challenged to achieve their best.

What do I need to join?

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, although learners must have an Education Health Care Plan and be between the ages of 16 and 24. They must also have completed a successful work placement previously, have a genuine desire to gain paid employment and the support of their parent/carers to achieve this.

Previous work

Maths & English

Interns will continue to work on their maths and English skills in recognition of the important role they play at work.

Employability

This is an Employment focused course where Interns are supported to develop their skills including communicating at work, attending an interview and writing a CV.

Work Experience

Work experience is in integral part of the course. All interns will work towards a placement of up to three days a week.

What can I do next?

You will be supported to apply for jobs and attend interviews with the expectation of gaining paid employment at the end of the course.
