Summary
This vocational course will develop your technical theatre skills in lighting, sound, AV projection design, set construction and stage management in our state-of-the-art theatre and studio spaces. The College runs a varied programme of performances, which means that the technicians will have the opportunity to work on dance, acting and musical theatre productions throughout the year. Work experience at local venues is an important part of the programme.
How will I know how I am doing?
Your tutors will closely monitor and guide you through the course to ensure you reach your potential. You will have personal one-to-one tutorials to review progress regularly.
What do I need to join?
Four GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English, and a merit at Level 2. Exceptional entry may be possible if a high level of skill in dance can be demonstrated. People over 19 without formal qualifications will be considered.
Previous work
Maths & English
A key requirement for obtaining many jobs is to achieve a good standard of English and maths. Therefore, learners that do not yet have a GCSE grade 4 (C) will be enrolled on either GCSE or Functional Skills programmes alongside their main course.
Employability
The performing arts and leisure industry is one of the few areas in the jobs market that has seen sustained levels of employment and even shown areas of growth in the present economic climate.
Work Experience
There are work placement opportunities for each year of the course, and learners can also participate in public productions in our two professional-standard theatres.
What can I do next?
You will be prepared for higher education courses at dance schools and universities, or for our HND in Production Arts taught at the Bristol Institute of Performing Arts, WISE Campus.
What are my career options?
Employment within the performing arts industry, teaching, arts administration or freelance work.
