Unconditional Places to Full-Time Applicants

Due to the uncertainty around how long the Covid-19 outbreak will last, it has been agreed for the immediate future that we will be offering unconditional places to full-time (not University Level) applicants who apply to SGS College.

Once you apply for your course, you will receive a communication offering you a place.

You just need to accept the offer, if you wish to.

We will then be in touch to discuss the offer once the Covid-19 risk reduces.

Learn more about Performing Arts at SGS College

The course covers a range of disciplines within performing arts and can lead to further study and work in acting, directing, writing, publicity and arts administration. The course will help to develop your individual, communication and collaborative skills, and also offers the experience of working in a theatre company.

Students will study:

  • Acting for film and TV
  • Acting techniques and practitioners
  • Voice and physical theatre
  • Classical and contemporary theatre
  • Devising

You will perform in three productions each year at our theatres and other touring venues. The SGS Performing Arts department has excellent facilities, including the 250-seat Olympus theatre, 80-seat Studio 22 theatre, tech theatre workshops, 4 dance studios, 6 drama studios, singing studios, costume and prop stores and full technical facilities and support.

What do I need to join?

4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English, or a Merit at Level 2. Exceptional entry may be possible if a high level of skill in drama can be demonstrated. People over 19 without formal qualifications will be considered.

You will be required to attend a practical audition workshop and take part in an interview for the course.

How will I know how I am doing?

Coursework is set with structured, achievable targets and clear, regular feedback from your tutor. You will also discuss work as student groups and receive feedback from your peers.

Maths & English

A key requirement for obtaining many jobs is to achieve a good standard of English and maths. Therefore, learners who do not yet have a GCSE grade 4 (C) will be enrolled on either GCSE or functional skills programmes alongside their main course.

The performing arts and leisure industry is one of the few areas in the jobs market that has sustained levels of employment and has even shown areas of growth in the present economic climate.

Work Experience

There is a work experience requirement linked to your programme and all students will complete industry-related placements.

What can I do next?

You will be prepared for higher education courses at drama schools, universities or for our degree in Drama and Performance taught at the WISE Campus.

What are my career options?

It is expected that learners from this course will be suitably prepared to enter employment within the creative industries.
