Summary

Help is here! SGS College launches its new ‘Home Tutoring Support Programme’ for maths and English

As teachers and parents, we appreciate just how difficult the process of isolation can be. Keeping young people active and engaged in learning is challenging at the best of times, but especially if you don’t have support; as a community college, we wanted to help parents navigate their way through the educational minefield by signposting some of more useful resources that are freely available.

Access a suite of extra resources for FREE…

In addition, we have developed a more comprehensive suite of support that can be accessed FREE of charge. All you need to do is fill in a short enrolment form and wait for an access link to be sent via e-mail. From there, you will get access to the following:

  1. A tailored 12-week package of support, advice and guidance, with over 30 hours of content and materials
  2. Access to additional resources, websites and mobile applications
  3. Access to self-marking assessments so you can check your progress instantly
  4. Access to a collaboration forum where parents can post questions to each other and specialist teachers
  5. Access to 4 hours per week of on-line tutorials delivered by experienced maths and English teachers
  6. Access to regular challenges and competitions to keep learners engaged and inspired
  7. Access to a wide range of downloadable e-books

 Top tips for home tutoring

  • Don’t expect to suddenly teach your child, learn together
  • Never be afraid to admit you don’t know something but always be prepared to discover answers with your child
  • Plan your day with regular routine and plenty of breaks/rewards.
  • Listen to your child and allow your child to be a part of making decisions about how your day should run
  • Do maths and English in the morning as this reflects the school / college timetable
  • Don’t expect too much in one day and revisit the following day. Consolidate using the 5 a day
  • Most importantly, ENJOY your time with your children otherwise learning will never take place
  • If you are struggling, you are not alone, share your struggles and don’t be afraid to ask for advice; hundreds of parents around the world are in the same position as you
