Summary

This course is designed to prepare you for a professional future in music performance and production. Emphasising creative exploration and experimentation, you will be encouraged to play, build confidence, engage in research, idea generation and reflection to develop your projects. The goal is to equip you with both the creative and technical expertise needed for a successful career in the music industry.

What do I need to join?

At least four grade 3s or above including an English or Maths GCSE at grade 3 or above (or Functional Skill Level 1 or above). or A relevant Level 1 Diploma and an English or Maths GCSE at grade 3 or above (or Functional Skill Level 1 or above)

How will I learn?

Throughout this course, you will gain valuable hands-on experiences through workshops, presentations, and projects designed by industry professionals. You’ll have the opportunity to participate in live gigs alongside other year groups, whether as a performer, producer or technician, enhancing your practical skills and collaboration abilities. The course also makes use of specialist music facilities, including advanced recording studios, allowing you to engage in real-world projects that mirror industry practices and further develop your expertise in music performance, production and technology. Alongside technical skills, the programme focuses on essential soft skills such as communication, collaboration, organisation and time management, all of which are key to achieving future professional success. The core of this programme is awarded by University of the Arts London (UAL). Widely regarded as the providing the best creative qualifications available, UAL enables us to teach flexible, professional programmes that give the most valuable, engaging and industry-ready skills possible.

Maths & English

A key requirement for future progression and employment is a good understanding and application of knowledge and skills in both English and maths. Learners who are enrolled on this course will also, as part of their overall programme of study, be enrolled on GCSE English and Maths in order to progress towards gaining GCSE grade 4 in both subjects.

Work Experience

As part of your overall study programme, you will be required to complete a work placement in a field related to the career you wish to pursue. Our dedicated Work Placement Team will support you in securing a suitable placement and will work closely with your course tutors to ensure you are progressing toward your goals. This collaboration ensures that you'll have the opportunity to practice and develop the employability skills necessary for success in the industry, both during your placement and within the college environment.

What can I do next?

Upon completing this course, you will have diverse and flexible progression options, including the opportunity to study a range of Level 3 Art Pathways. In the future, after completing further programmes at Level 3 and beyond, you could find yourself working in a wide range of creative industries. The skills you develop in this course - focused on problem-solving, critical thinking, and practical application - are highly transferable. Whether working freelance, as part of a studio, or within a professional organisation, you could pursue roles such as musician, audio designer, technician, producer, director, or music manager. The possibilities are endless, and you may even move into fields like teaching, art therapy, or curation, opening up a wealth of creative career paths.
