This programme offers a broad introduction to the media industry and develops the personal skills and attributes that students need to achieve their full potential at Level 1. This is a very practical course on which you will gain media skills by making media products. Examples of the kind of work you could complete include making a short film with the drama students, designing characters for a computer game and creating your own animation. The media department has four Mac Bay media suites, a TV studio and edit suites, and is well equipped with professional recording and photography resources.

Maths & English
A key requirement for obtaining many jobs is to achieve a good standard of English and maths. Therefore, learners that do not yet have a GCSE grade 4 (C) in these subjects will be enrolled on either GCSE or functional skills programmes alongside their main study programme.
The media industry is one of the few areas in the jobs market that has sustained levels of employment and has even shown areas of growth in the present economic climate.
There are no specific off-site opportunities at this level, but students will participate in video shoots and other production opportunities both within the College and on location, including at our extensive range of shows and sporting matches and competitions.
What can I do next?
Learners who successfully complete the qualification and all other elements of their study programme may progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Media or Computer Games or other Level 2 qualifications at SGS.
What are my career options?
Internships, self-employment or employment within the media industry.
Communication, confidence, creative thinking and teamwork are all skills developed on the course that are transferable to a broad range of employment opportunities.Apply for this course
