Summary
Our media department provides learners with opportunities to gain professional skills using industry-standard equipment, taught by industry experts.
This practical course has three phases. To start with, you’ll learn a set of key media skills, including editing with Photoshop and Premiere and how to handle a range of DSLRs and video cameras. Next, you will work as part of a team to create a media project in response to a brief. Finally, you will get the chance to design and create your own media product, which could be anything from a short film to a photo gallery or website.
This Level 2 course is based at our dynamic and exciting WISE Campus, located within easy reach of the city of Bristol and moments away from Bristol Parkway and Bristol Abbey Wood train stations.
What do I need to join?
As well as having a keen interest in the subject area, learners will need to possess GCSEs at grade 3 in both English and Maths.
Learners will need to be committed, punctual and demonstrate an enthusiasm for learning and taking on new ideas and skills.
Ideally, learners will have completed a Level 1 qualification in a related discipline or will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the industry and practices involved in it.
Previous work
Maths & English
A key requirement for future progression and employment is a good understanding and application of knowledge and skills in both English and maths. Learners who are enrolled on this course will also, as part of their overall programme of study, be enrolled on GCSE English and Maths in order to progress towards gaining GCSE grade 4 in both subjects.
Work Experience
As part of your overall programme of study, learners will be required to undertake a period of work placement related to the field of employment they wish to enter.
Our Work Placement Team will assist learners in gaining a placement and ensure that you are on track to achieve, whilst liaising with your course tutors to ensure that the opportunity to practice necessary employability skills is available at college.
What can I do next?
Learners who successfully complete the programme can either gain an apprenticeship, enter the industry or continue with their studies through to Level 3.
