Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Explore Stroud - An exciting and fantastic new course for adults over 50 in the Bristol area! SGS Explore is bought to you by the SGS Life Team behind the award winning Refresh 2 Impress and Discover course. Designed exclusively for the over fifties and young at heart, concentrating on Stroud’s history, art and culture. Explore will give learners the opportunity to explore and discover exciting local places of interest such as the Museum in the Park and learn more about Stroud and the surrounding area and its history, with a walking tour of the included in the course. All this as well as developing learning through Maths & English for everyday life. Taking place at the SGS College Stroud campus the 12-week course will be delivered 1 day per week. With either English or maths in the morning and an activity in the afternoon. • The course also includes additional sessions such as how to keep safe online & using the internet for day to day living • Trying something new and cathartic such as Art through nature, Pottery & Art to support, Wellbeing & Seated Yoga, Holistic therapy and positive mental health • Understanding our area’s history and enriching knowledge on our local community On completion of the course, learners will receive a free tablet so they can continue to learn online and adapt in a world of technology. There will also be free refreshments and light lunch provided at each session. More information coming soon.

How will I learn?

There will be plenty of support throughout this course, with a dedicated Team leader supporting the group. The environment will be fun and interactive with help and guidance from the tutors and team leader. Feedback will be offered in each of the sessions.

What can I do next?

Learners can progress to the next level Maths qualification followed by an English functional skills qualification if desired. There are also many adult courses within the college.
