Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

This new course is all about living and working in Bristol for anyone where English is their second language. From calculating increasing shopping costs, how to save money, navigating public transport, getting the best deal with domestic bills and supporting learners in getting the most for their money. This course will support learners with their English as well as seeing them plan and research a walking tour of the city which they will take part in on their last day so they can feel more settled and familiar with Bristol. 

On completion, learners attending these courses will receive a £50 supermarket voucher to contribute towards their food bills. They will also get a food voucher for each weekly session attended which they can add to the completion voucher totalling which adds up to £100 to help out with food bills.

The sessions will be in a safe and supportive environment, tutor led and inclusive for all.

What can I do next?

All learners will have the opportunity to progress to a maths qualification or take part in any adult course at the College.

Course fees explained

The course fee can usually be broken down to three components which are Materials (resources required to study the course, for example stationery, books and other equipment), Tuition (teaching, classroom etc) and Exams. Depending on age, financial circumstances and a number of other factors you could be asked to pay the full fee or just elements of it. Usually Learners under 19s studying Full-Time courses have just Material fee costs to pay, over 19s on Full-Time or Part-Time courses usually have materials, exams and tuition fees to pay.
