Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Summary

Delivered at the GL11 Community Hub in Cam, Gloucestershire, this course is a first-step course for complete beginners looking to learn some IT skills to help you navigate the technological world in your day to day life. Computers can enhance your life and today's society is seeing everything changing to online from banking, booking holidays and even the weekly shop.
Working at a gentle pace, you will cover switching on the computer, using a mouse, navigating the computer and moving onto using the internet to search on Google, storing your information safely on your computer, how to stay safe online, using emails and storing/sending photos.
You will be introduced to using social media like Facebook and auction sites like eBay.

How will I know how I am doing?

The course is paced at a level suitable to a beginners class. Your tutor will give you plenty of helpful feedback and guidance throughout the course.
In this class you will go at your own pace, it is not a class where you will compare yourself with anyone else. Everyone comes to computers with a different background and experience, and everyone learns to use them at a different pace.
The tutor will encourage you to set yourself small, realistic goals during the course. We know that learning a new skill can be daunting but in this safe environment, practice makes perfect and we encourage you to not shy away from repeating the things you’re learning time and time again until you feel you’ve got it. Its a great place to make mistakes without judgement, but with support and guidance
