Summary
Books offer us comfort, companionship and escape in these stressful and sometimes lonely times, as well as developing life and literacy skills. SGS are offering a free 10 week online course which focuses on sharing the joy of reading.
This course caters for all. Each lesson will focus on a short story or poetry by a different author or poet and many different genres, including:
- Humour
- Romance
- Gothic horror
- Science-fiction
This course is the perfect opportunity to broaden your reading experiences and try something new. The short stories will be emailed to you by your tutor before each lesson-so no need to buy any books!
Our lessons are fun and informal, with the chance to chat and make new
friends. The only thing we ask is that you find a comfy chair and bring a
coffee.
Each lesson will include a short presentation giving you
some background information on the author and the cultural or historical context
of the story.
This will be followed by a discussion of the story-but not in
a way that makes you feel as if you’re back in an English class at school!
We will focus on things like how did the story make you feel or which character
did you love/hate and why?
