This qualification is designed to enable learners to access higher education upon successful completion, or to progress into the workplace. The two-year qualification is structured to allow learners to pursue their interest in nursing, whilst allowing for a diversity of options to maintain a broad range of progression opportunities. Modules studied may include: safeguarding in health and social care, infection prevention and control, psychological perspectives, sociological perspectives, reflective practice and communication in health and social care.
How will I know how I am doing?
You will be continuously assessed through your assignment tasks. Assignments are set throughout the year, so you will know how well you are doing through regular one-to-one feedback from your tutor.
What do I need to join?
Five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English Language, Maths and Science. An acceptable DBS clearance and academic reference. Applicants will also need to successfully pass a taster day and a six-week probationary period.
Maths & English
All learners must have a grade C or above in Maths and English to enrol on the Level 3 programme. Functional Skills are embedded within the curriculum and learners are fully prepared for HEI entrance exams.
Learners who complete the Level 3 Certificate can progress into apprenticeships and employment within the HSC sector. Learners who complete the Level 3 Extended Diploma can progress onto studying different types of nursing, midwifery, social work, youth work, radiography, paramedic science and youth work at higher education level. Other higher education routes include sociology, psychology and law.
Learners will be required to attend placement in a real work environment to support their learning. The minimum required number of placement hours are: • Certificate: 75 hours • Extended Diploma: 175 hours (includes the 75 hours completed during the Certificate)
What can I do next?
Successful completion of this qualification will allow learners to progress into higher education in a related field, gain employment in the sector or gain an apprenticeship.
