Summary
Level 2 Games Design provides a comprehensive introduction to the essential skills required for a career in the games industry and serves as a stepping stone to our Level 3 Games Design programme. The course emphasises research, idea generation and reflective practices to help you tackle real-world design challenges effectively. With a focus on practical, hands-on experience, the curriculum nurtures creativity, encourages experimentation and develops a professional approach to design work.
How will I learn?
The course is delivered and assessed through a range of engaging experiences, such as workshops, presentations and projects developed by industry professionals. These hands-on learning opportunities are tailored to help you acquire practical skills and insights that are directly applicable to games design. Additionally, the course features trips that offer valuable context for your work, helping you understand the reasoning behind game design concepts and providing insight into audience perceptions. Alongside technical skills, the programme focuses on essential soft skills such as communication, collaboration, organisation and time management, all of which are key to achieving future professional success. The core of this programme is awarded by University of the Arts London (UAL). Entry Requirements
At least four grade 3s or above including an English or Maths GCSE at grade 3 or above (or Functional Skill Level 1 or above). or A relevant Level 1 Diploma and an English or Maths GCSE at grade 3 or above (or Functional Skill Level 1 or above)
Work Experience
As part of your overall study programme, you will be required to complete a work placement in a field related to the career you wish to pursue. Our dedicated Work Placement Team will support you in securing a suitable placement and will work closely with your course tutors to ensure you are progressing toward your goals. This collaboration ensures that you'll have the opportunity to practice and develop the employability skills necessary for success in the industry, both during your placement and within the college environment.
What can I do next?
Upon completing this course, you will have diverse and flexible progression options, including the opportunity to study a range of Level 3 programmes in Games Design, Fine Art, Design & Communication, Photography, Film & Media, Make-up Artistry or Music. In the future, after completing further programmes at Level 3 and beyond, you could find yourself working in a wide range of creative industries. The skills you develop in this course - focused on problem-solving, critical thinking, and practical application - are highly transferable. You may work freelance or perhaps as part of a studio or professional organisation. You could be a programmer, animator, game artist, 3d modeller, audio designer, level designer, director, games journalist, or something else creative altogether. You might even move into teaching or playing games professionally. There are endless possibilities.
