Summary
The Pearson BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Vocational Studies is designed around practical skills and tasks that place an emphasis on learners demonstrating what they can do practically, rather than concentrating on theory as a main strand to the course. The qualifications give learners the opportunity to acquire and develop generic, transferable skills in order to complete tasks and demonstrate a level of achievement that enables them to progress to further learning and employment within a number of sectors
What do I need to join?
Learners will need Entry Level 2 or 2 in English and Maths. Learners will need to be committed, punctual and demonstrate an enthusiasm for learning and taking on new ideas and skills.
How will I learn?
Throughout the course there are 2 main methods of assessment. 1. Practical assessments Students will be asked to demonstrate a range of practical skills whilst being observed by a lecturer. Feedback will be given verbally with a witness statement completed as record. 2. Written assignments. Students will be given up to three weeks to complete the tasks (at lecturers discretion). The nature of these assignments will vary based on the unit of study. We ask learners to hand work in on time, and to the best of their ability. Extensions can be applied for by completing the extenuating circumstances form, available on the course TEAMS. Extensions are at the discretion of the lead Internal Verifier.
Previous work
Work Experience
It is highly recommended that all learners access work experience placements whilst on this study programme. This is not compulsory for pre-16s, but parents can consent to it as part of home education. Placements give learners a vital opportunity to gain confidence, skills and greater independence amongst countless others skills. There is support with finding a placement, however overall responsibility stands with the leaner.
What can I do next?
You can put your achievements to use in a variety of ways. You may consider joining a vocational course such as Information Communication Technology or Health and Social Care. You may decide to progress on to our Supported Internship Programme. Whatever you decide, you will be guided towards right the career for you.
Additional Information
The Pearson BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Vocational Studies is primarily for learners who need to gain the skills and qualifications for progression to further learning and, ultimately, to employment. Learners also take this time to develop their English and maths skills.
