Summary

Functional Skills are the fundamental skills that you need for your working and personal lives. You can study for the qualifications in practical ways and apply core skills to real-life situations.

You will develop your reading and writing skills through topics that interest you. You will have the opportunity to use a computer and participate in whole-class activities, as well as working on your own with support. These courses will help you to gain a nationally recognised qualification in English.

The emphasis of this course is on improving practical communication skills that you already have so that you can gain the most from life, learning and work. The course includes a range of real life scenarios such as reading and writing instructions, articles, letters, e-mails and job applications. It will also detail practical strategies to revise and improve spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Our aim is to ensure that each learner is able to communicate effectively and develop skills in speaking and listening, reading and writing. As part of the course you will learn the skills needed to communicate confidently, effectively and independently.

By supporting the practical development of your English skills, this will allow you to gain the most out of your work, education and day to day life.
