Unconditional Places to Full-Time Applicants

Due to the uncertainty around how long the Covid-19 outbreak will last, it has been agreed for the immediate future that we will be offering unconditional places to full-time (not University Level) applicants who apply to SGS College.

Once you apply for your course, you will receive a communication offering you a place.

You just need to accept the offer, if you wish to.

We will then be in touch to discuss the offer once the Covid-19 risk reduces.

Learn more about Employability at SGS College

Summary

This course is designed to give learners the core skills they need to progress, and for students who prefer to study more than one sector. Students will prepare and serve food and drink by running a pop-up food stall out in the community at either a community event or a food festival in Term 3.

What do I need to join?

Ideally you will possess GCSE grade 2 or above in both English and Maths. Most important is a positive attitude and the willingness to learn.

How will I know how I am doing?

A range of teaching methods will be used in the classroom, including: writing, reading, researching, presentations, discussions and producing a short film. Assignments will be issued every term to assess your understanding and knowledge. You will also run an event in the local community by preparing and serving food and drink.

Maths & English

A key requirement for future progression and employment is a good understanding and application of knowledge and skills in both English and maths. Learners who are enrolled on this course will also, as part of their overall programme of study, be enrolled on either Functional Skills or GCSE programmes in English and Maths in order to progress towards gaining GCSE grade 4 in both subjects.

Employability

We aim to provide you with the skills required to be able to progress into further study and training or employment upon completion of your programme of study. Key attributes required by employers are that individuals be enthusiastic, motivated, presentable (in some instances in company uniform), organised, articulate, able to think 'outside the box', business-like and enterprising, and that they have a 'can-do' attitude. We work on all these areas throughout the duration of your programme of study, and your tutor(s) will provide feedback on progress made, as well as areas for development.

Work Experience

As part of your overall programme of study, learners will be required to undertake a period of work placement related to the field of employment they wish to enter. Our Work Placement Team will assist learners in gaining a placement and ensure that you are on track to achieve, whilst liaising with your course tutors to ensure that the opportunity to practice necessary employability skills is available at college.

What can I do next?

Learners who successfully complete will be eligible for progression onto a Level 2 programme of study, or an apprenticeship in a related discipline.
