Summary
This A-level qualification is designed to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and expertise needed to work unsupervised with children aged 0–7 in a variety of settings, including day nurseries, nursery schools, primary schools, preschools and home-based childcare, or as a nanny. Learners will take part in 750 placement hours across the 0–7 age ranges.
Modules covered may include: children’s health and well-being, providing safe environments for children, play and learning, understanding children’s additional needs, professional practice and observation, assessment and planning and learning for school readiness and professional development.
How will I know how I am doing?
You will receive one-to-one tutorials with your tutor. You will have feedback on your assessments and informal feedback in lessons.
What do I need to join?
You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Maths. You should have an interest in working with children and be able to supply to positive references, one from school and one from an early years education setting.

You will continue to enhance your English and maths knowledge through our embedded programme.
Employability
You will partake in Forest School-type activities. There will also be guest speakers. Agencies and setting managers advertise directly to the College and offer training on writing CVs and interview techniques.
Work Experience
You will spend two days a week in placement and three block weeks, for a total of 750 hours by the end of your second year. Placement in a variety of early years settings is required to achieve this qualification.
What can I do next?
Upon successful completion of this qualification, learners can progress onto the Level 3 in Early Years Education and Care qualification, which will provide learners with the Early Years Educator status that is required to work unsupervised with young people.
What are my career options?
The Certificate provides you with the experience and skills to progress onto the Diploma. After completing the Diploma, you will be able to work with children unsupervised in numerous settings. You could work in the following roles: special educational needs support worker, practitioner in day nurseries, practitioner in nursery schools, practitioner in reception classes in primary schools, preschool worker, home-based childcare worker or nanny.
