About the course

The Watercolour for Wellbeing course offers a welcoming, relaxed, and supportive environment designed to nurture creativity and personal growth. Whether you're a beginner or seeking to reignite your artistic passion, this course encourages students to explore their creativity while working towards a Tailored Learning Outcome that aligns with their personal goals and aspirations.

Course content
You will receive gentle guidance and demonstrations as you explore the art of watercolour, experimenting with a variety of techniques. The course includes both studio-based sessions and outdoor studies in the landscape, providing opportunities to learn and practice in different settings. The tutor will offer hands-on support, especially for those who may face challenges with dexterity or coordination. You will have the freedom to work at your own pace, discovering your creative potential in a calm and nurturing environment. This course not only develops practical skills but also enhances overall wellbeing, fostering confidence and self-expression along the way.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
There are no formal assessments.

Students will work towards a personal Tailored Learning Outcome regarding their physical health, mental health and developing stronger communities. During the beginning of the course, the tutor will spend 1:1 time with students to determine which learning outcome they would like to work towards.

About the tutor
Jack Duplock Studied art at the Royal Academy School of art and has over 20 years’ experience as a practising artist. He is also a qualified teacher with experience teaching learners from various backgrounds and abilities. His teaching specialisms include collage, watercolour and acrylic techniques and drawing. His work explores landscape and the figure. Working from photographs his work is based on both personal and found imagery. Currently he is working on a body of work that is influenced by the south west landscape of his childhood and where he now lives. He has shown his work both in The UK and internationally. Notable exhibitions have included a recent solo show at the Agency Gallery London, group shows at Durden and Ray in Los Angeles and Kunstalboratorium Vestfossen , Norway. He has been included in New Contemporaries and John Moore painting prize. His work is in various private collections.
What do I need to join (Entry Requirements)
Applicants must be at least 19 years of age at the start of the academic year.

You don’t need to have any art experience to join this course.

We kindly ask that you try to attend each week for the duration of the course to get the most out of the experience. Your regular participation will help you fully benefit from the activities, learning and achieving your goal set out from the Tailored Learning Outcomes.

These courses are also available for self-referring or referred patient/client.

If you have a support worker or have a condition, we will need to be aware of, please let us know – there may be other specialised creative courses that are more suited to your needs from other health providers. The tutor will spend some time with you 1:1 to support you with your declared needs to ensure we give you the best support and guidance during the course.

Additional information

You may be eligible for a full fee waiver for this course if your household income is below the following thresholds:

  • England: £20,319 (based on ESFA guidelines)
  • Bristol area: £23,400 (based on WECA guidelines)

If you receive Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), or Universal Credit (UC), you may also be eligible. The income cap for Universal Credit is:

  • Single claimant: £617 per month
  • Joint claimants: £988 per month

You may be eligible for co-funding for this course, meaning you only pay £40.00 if you meet any of the following criteria and your household income is below £27,000:

  • Receiving Carer’s Allowance
  • Receiving Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • Receiving State Pension
  • Receiving Attendance Allowance
  • Providing evidence of a food bank voucher
  • Receiving Universal Credit with an income cap of:

    • Single claimant: £817 per month
    • Joint claimants: £1188 per month

If your income is between £27,000 and £30,000, you may need to only pay £50.00 for this course.

If your income is over £30,000, you will need to pay the full fee of £75 for this course.

Pricing tiers

These courses are delivered under the government Tailored Learning Scheme. They are limited to one Wellbeing course per term (excluding online)

The courses are part-funded and therefore means / benefit tested, and fees may still apply. Below is our sliding scale table of tiered costings depending on your financial situation. All of these costs are at the part-funded price.

Subject to means / benefit tested, fees could be reduced to one of the following tiers:

Tier 1 - £10 materials (£20 stained glass)

Income under £20,319 (Gloucestershire) £23,400 (Bristol area)

Benefits - Universal Credit (UC) * Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).

Tier 2 - £40 (£50 stained glass)

Income – under £27,000 (Gloucestershire and Bristol)

Benefits - Universal Credit (UC) **, Carer’s Allowance, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), State Pension, Attendance Allowance and food bank voucher.

Tier 3 - £50 (£60 stained glass)

Income – Between £27,000 and £30,000

Tier 4 - £75 (£85 stained glass)

Income – Over £30,000

*UC Cap for Tier 1 for a sole claim £617per month and for a joint claim £988.
**UC Cap Tier 2 for a sole claim £817per month and for a joint claim £1188.LI
