Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Summary

This is an ideal qualification (awarded by CPCAB) for those seeking to enhance their functional role through the use of counselling skills (e.g. nurses, social workers). It will be useful for those seeking a career change and wishing to develop as professional counsellors, and for anyone offering help on a one-to-one basis. It will also be of use to those wishing to consolidate their skills and knowledge in a counselling context.

These issues are addressed and consolidated alongside the development of counselling skills and theory throughout the qualification.

This qualification aims to develop candidates’ counselling skills to a safe level of practice and provide an introduction to essential counselling theory raise awareness of professional issues for the developing practitioner promote equal opportunity.

The course consists of seven mandatory units:

  • Prepare to work within an ethical framework for counselling
  • Understand the counselling relationship
  • Understand difference and diversity issues to develop empathic understanding
  • Work within a user-centred approach to counselling
  • Use counselling theory to develop self-awareness in counselling practice
  • Understand theories of counselling and mental health
  • Use feedback, reflection and supervision to support counselling studies

This course is eligible for the Free Courses For Jobs government scheme which is designed to offer a selection of level 3 qualifications to learners for free to eligible learners.

How will I learn?

The course will be delivered through a series of taught lectures, learning activities and experiential skills practice. Your work will be regularly checked by tutors.

We will observe you using your counselling skills and give you written feedback on your journal and set assignments.

Successful completion of the course will be based upon an internally assessed portfolio including:

  • Journal
  • Project
  • Tutor skills assessment
  • Case study
  • Video self-assessment
  • Externally assessed assignment

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry age is 19 years. Candidates should hold the CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or equivalent classroom based course.

STUDY THIS COURSE FOR FREE
This course is eligible for the Free Courses For Jobs government scheme which is designed to offer a selection of level 3 qualifications to learners for free. To be eligible for this you must meet one or more points within the below criteria.

  • Are 19 or over and do not already have a level 3 qualification
  • Already have a level 3 qualification or higher but earn below the National Living Wage (£18,525)
  • Already have a level 3 qualification or higher but are unemployed

In some areas, there may be slightly different low wage threshold. Please get in touch to find out more information, alteratively your eligibility will be determined within 5 days of your enrolment request.
