Unconditional Places to Full-Time Applicants

Due to the uncertainty around how long the Covid-19 outbreak will last, it has been agreed for the immediate future that we will be offering unconditional places to full-time (not University Level) applicants who apply to SGS College.

Once you apply for your course, you will receive a communication offering you a place.

You just need to accept the offer, if you wish to.

We will then be in touch to discuss the offer once the Covid-19 risk reduces.

Summary

This course provides an excellent opportunity to develop the enterprise skills required to either run your own business or establish a career within many business fields, e.g. accountancy, marketing, events planning, human resources, finance and administration. The programme includes a mix of theoretical and practical elements, with an opportunity to run your own microbusiness. In addition, the course will include a programme of guest speakers and trips to further develop your knowledge of a full range of businesses. The course will enable you to develop a range of transferable skills such as teamwork, problem solving, communication and initiative. The next step after the course could be running your own business, going to university or doing an apprenticeship. These are some of the units that you would be studying; developing a marketing campaign, personal and business finance, launching and running an enterprise, social enterprise, survival and growth, business decision-making, and principles of management.

How will I know how I am doing?

The course is assessed through assignments, controlled assessment and examination. You will receive continuous progress reviews, along with full and regular feedback from your tutor to ensure you are on track and ready for your next step. Feedback will be verbal, written or electronic and is designed to support you on your course.

What do I need to join?

You will need at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English and Maths.

Maths & English

Opportunities to upskill in both English and maths are provided, and feedback is given to learners on their strengths and areas for improvement.

Employability

The course is designed to improve your employability skills through the main qualification units, guest speakers, enrichment trips and work experience.

Work Experience

We encourage and provide support to those who wish to gain experience in the world of business and can offer contacts to assist with arranging this. You will have the opportunity to complete a work placement in the business field.

What can I do next?

The course will provide an excellent stepping stone to university or an apprenticeship. Alternatively, some people may choose to become entrepreneurs and focus on their own businesses. In the past, our business and enterprise students have gone on to study economics, marketing, event planning, law or business at university.

What are my career options?

The course provides many career opportunities. In the past, our business and enterprise students have gone on to work in banking, project management, marketing, accounting, human resources and administration.
