Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Summary

This course is a fast-paced part-time course which covers specific skills necessary to become a senior stylist. The qualification builds on existing knowledge and understanding of hairdressing and develops more detailed and enhanced technical skills necessary for employment. Throughout the course you will be taught a range of creative hair techniques including:

  • Creatively style and dress hair
  • Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
  • Creatively colour and lighten hair
  • Provide client consultation services
  • Hair colour correction services
  • Cut Men's hair

The course will run over 30 weeks one day a week and one evening for the first term.

How will I learn?

Throughout the course you will be required to practice on and receive services from peers in your group, before carrying out services on paying clients to maximise your employability skills.

This course is based at our Stroud campus in the centre of Gloucestershire, surrounded by the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The campus is moments away from Stroud train station and easily accessible by bus.

You will continually be assessed using a variety of methods including:

  • Written assignments and projects
  • Online tests
  • Practical assessments which are undertaken on paying clients
  • Oral questioning
  • Portfolio of evidence

Previous work

Entry Requirements

This course is designed for Adults aged 19 and over with a mature and focused approach to learning and good interpersonal skills. You will need to hold a level 2 diploma in hairdressing to qualify for this course. Ideally you will have three grade 3 (d) GCSEs including English Language, or be able to demonstrate that you are able to work at the required Level. You will also need to be able to commit to 4 hours per week for independent study and practicing your practical skills at home.

You will be required to purchase a kit and uniform before your first day.
 
Acceptance on the course will be subject to attendance at an adult information/interview day with the tutor.
