This qualification is designed to enable learners to enter the exciting world of Make-Up artistry and beauty therapy. It provides learners with the opportunity to learn in our modern, up-to-date, professional salons using state-of-the-art equipment. You will also have the chance to take part in trips to make-up and beauty shows and participate in competitions. Learners will gain the knowledge and experience that is required to progress towards careers as make up artists, cosmetic counters and salon therapists. Here is a snapshot of the core and additional units you will study throughout the year: • Skincare • Apply make-up • Photographic make-up • Spray tanning • Face & body art • Lash and brow treatments • Retail displays • Professionalism, and employability skills
How will I know how I am doing?
You will be assessed through observation of practical assessments, assignments and examinations. Experienced tutors will closely monitor and guide you through techniques to ensure you are meeting and exceeding industry standards. You will have personal, one-to-one tutorials to review your progress regularly.
What do I need to join?
Learners will possess three GCSEs at grade 3 (C) or above, including Maths and English, and will also provide a positive reference and undertake a successful skills assessment.
How will I learn?
This Level 2 course is based at our Filton campus, located in South Gloucestershire which is easily accessible from the city of Bristol by train (Bristol Parkway / Bristol Abbey Wood) and bus. As well as our Stroud campus in the centre of Gloucestershire, surrounded by the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The campus is a short walk from Stroud train station and easily accessible by bus.
Maths & English
You will be given the opportunity to improve and advance your skills in both subjects, enabling you to progress in your studies or career. For students who have a GCSE grade 3 (D) in English or Maths, you will have the opportunity to improve and achieve a grade 4 (C).
You will be working in a realistic commercial salon environment with clients and enhancing your customer experience skills.
Your tutor will discuss this with you. It is expected that all learners will undertake an amount of work experience within the industry.
What can I do next?
Upon successful completion of this qualification, and by meeting the required progression criteria, learners may progress onto the Level 3 specialised make-up qualification or pursue the beauty therapy route which will provide you with further training and experience and equip you with the additional skills that are required to work in this exciting industry.
