Tuition Fees

16-18

Between the ages of 16-18 you do not need to pay tuition or exam fees for your course.

19-23

If you are between the ages of 19 and 23 and have not achieved a full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification before, then you may be entitled to a Legal Entitlement to cover the cost of your tuition, exam and material fees.

19+ (English or Maths Course etc.)

If you are 19 or over and taking an English or Maths course up to an including Level 2, and have not previously achieved a GCSE Grade A* to C or grade 4 or higher, then you may be entitled to a Legal Entitlement to cover the cost of your tuition, exam and material fees.

19+ (Level 2 Course or Below etc.)

If you are aged 19 or over and studying a level 2 course or below, you may be entitled to a Low Income/Benefit Waiver. If awarded, this Waiver will cover your tuition, exam and material fees.

19+ (Level 3 Course or Above etc.)

If you are aged 19 or over and studying on a level 3 course or above, and the Level 3 Legal Entitlement does not apply, you will need to pay the full cost of the course. You may however be eligible to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the tuition fees.

Please make arrangements to pay your course fee costs at the time of enrolment. Payment is due prior to the start of your course. The option to pay via an instalment plan is available if required. Please contact the College directly for the most up to date course fees – these may be subject to change.

Summary

Make a beautiful stained glass panel. This course is suitable for the absolute beginner – no experience is necessary – and those with some experience who want to develop their glass work. This course is held off-site at the Hub Academy, Hope Mill Lane, Brimscombe, GL5 2SE. Beginners will be taken through a structured course, step by step, to include all the stages essential to making a leaded stained glass panel. This will cover design, cut line drawings, selecting and cutting coloured glass, leading, soldering, cementing and finishing techniques. Continuing students can work on an individual project to develop their design and craft skills, as well as experiment with new techniques, e.g. fusing, copper foil work, kiln-fired glass paint/stain/enamels. You will learn how to: • Cut glass safely • Shape glass to size with pliers • Cut leads accurately • Solder neatly • Make a small piece of leaded stained glass Ruth Adams has taught Fired Stained Glass Painting at Central Saint Martins, where she previously completed her postgraduate studies in Glass with distinction. She taught Stained Glass for10 years at the City Literary Institute in Central London. Ruth relocated to Stroud, where she works as a practicing artist and set up the Glass department within the Art School at Stroud College. She is a respected educator within this field, with an enormous amount of experience and enthusiasm to help you engage with this fantastic subject. Your fee includes the finest materials to make a leaded panel up to A3 size. There is a wonderful range of beautiful glass for you to use on your course, as well as lead, solder, fusing glass and sundries. If you want to make larger work, you may choose to buy some additional materials from a supplier or the tutor.

What do I need to join?

This course is suitable for complete beginners and also students who already have some experience of stained glass.

How will I know how I am doing?

You will be guided through your project with demonstrations at each stage. You will get lots of one-to-one support to help you make your beautiful glass panel. More experienced students will have the support and expertise of the tutor to take on larger, more complex projects.

What can I do next?

You can enrol for another stained glass weekly course, or enrol on the Easter Fusing Glass or Summer Intensive Stained Glass courses, as well as other arts courses at the College. If you are able to attend daytime courses, there are AIM Award courses on Thursday mornings, 9:30 am–12:00 pm, and Friday mornings, 9:00 am–12:00 pm.
