Summary
This programme focuses on visual communication and design practices with the aim of preparing you for a successful career in the creative industries. You will have the freedom to explore a variety of design techniques and methods, which will help you build confidence in your creative abilities. The course encourages innovative problem-solving and experimentation, equipping you with the skills needed to excel in a range of creative roles.
What do I need to join?
At least four grade 4s or above including an English or Maths GCSE at grade 4 or above plus a portfolio of recent work to show at Taster Day or A relevant Level 2 Diploma and an English or Maths GCSE at grade 4 or above (or Functional Skill Level 2)
How will I learn?
You will undertake projects using a range of specialist facilities, including the digital suite, print room and fashion workshop, with additional access to the 3D workshop, darkroom and photography studio to enhance your skill set. At the end of the year, we’ll have our School of Art exhibition to showcase all the fantastic work our students do. The programme includes trips to museums and galleries, providing valuable context for what you create and why, as well as insight into how different audiences perceive art, design and photography. Alongside technical skills, the programme focuses on essential soft skills such as communication, collaboration, organisation, and time management, all of which are key to achieving future professional success. The core of this programme is awarded by University of the Arts London (UAL). Widely regarded as the providing the best creative qualifications available, UAL enables us to teach flexible, professional programmes that give the most valuable, engaging and industry-ready skills possible.
Work Experience
You will receive guidance and support in seeking opportunities that are relevant to your specialism, helping you gain practical experience in a real-world environment. This could involve participating in live projects set by industry professionals, entering creative competitions, or working with local or national companies. These experiences will not only help you build a strong portfolio and professional network but also provide valuable insights and practical exposure to the demands of the creative industries.
What can I do next?
The progression and career opportunities on completion of this course are both diverse and flexible, offering pathways to higher education and various creative careers. The skills developed throughout the course - such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and practical making - are highly transferable. You could choose to work freelance or as part of a studio or professional organisation.
