information

Summary

In this course, you will be introduced to methods and techniques as an introduction to textile processes. You will explore drawing, colourways, idea generation and pattern development for you to expand and explore in your own way. Experimental approaches are welcomed and non-traditional methods will be explored. We will explore different ways of creating textiles such as drawing, weaving, repeat patterns, poly-fusing and applying them to create unique works. Whilst we will not work with digital design so much, Laura can support you with this via tutorials if you have access to Adobe Creative Cloud and would like to develop work in this area.

The aim of the course is to introduce you to a wide range of textile methods from home, in the hope that you come closer to finding your own style.

How will I learn?

With this course we have brought the classroom to you and created a 12 week interactive online learning environment. These sessions are never pre-recorded and like in a classroom you will have a teacher and other students interacting with you live on set teaching dates. Allowing you to ask questions and gain skills all without leaving your desk.

Weekly tasks will be set by your tutor Laura Edmunds as PDF documents and video tutorials (depending on the task). There is no wrong or right way to do this, and the tasks are designed as such. The tasks will feature a set of instructions and recommended resources as a starting point. Your tutor will also link to other artists to contextualise the task and expand your knowledge of artists drawing. It is key to maintain an open mind, and to see the potential in what you draw. You will receive: A tailored 12-week package with exciting and creative tasks. Online tutorials with your tutor who will give you further support, advice and guidance. Access to group chats and four webinars lead by your tutor giving you the opportunity to discuss your work and ideas with other students.

For more information on how you will learn please email [email protected].

This course is set up to need a minimal amount of art materials. You will need access to a laptop or computer to join the webinars and tutorials.
