Creative Writing: Experiments in Memoir Writing

The digital age has allowed us to capture and erase our recorded lives at the touch of a button. Hundreds, if not thousands of pictures sit on our hard drives with the risk of being lost and never looked at again. Gone is the photographic album once the focus of family pride, tradition, and meaningful conversations about our past.  Today, we seem to know more about our favourite celebrities than we do about ourselves. As such, it has never been more important to capture both the ordinary, and extraordinary nature of our personal lives. Experiments in memoir writing offers the chance to revisit our most delicate memories, a sometimes very uncomfortable thing to do, in order to forge our lives into meaningful art.

Our weekly workshops will allow you to explore such concepts as history and autobiography, and how they relate to the concept of the memoir itself. As well as educating the imagination to put your life experiences into words, we will look at what writing is and what it can become. For the unseasoned writer, playing with words will enable you to develop your writer’s voice; those who have been writing a while will learn how to drill deeper into their notion of writing as a whole and build upon their knowledge of the word.

How will I learn?

This online course is run through a series of live workshops and feedback sessions, where you will work both individually and as a group and you will have the opportunity to share your work in class and on our digital platform Teams.

Entry Requirements

Whether you already have some experience of writing or are just embarking on your writing journey, all we ask is that you have an open mind and a willingness to draw on new ideas to develop your writing. You will need to have access to a computer for the live sessions.
