The course aims to provide an opportunity for you to explore a wide range of ceramic processes and ideas at your own level.

This offering is hosted by Steve Carter, Steve graduated in Ceramics from West Surrey College of Art & Design. A craft-artist and teacher, Steve's experience has included mould-making, bronze caster, flowerpot thrower and he has been the sole proprietor of his "research pottery" business since 1996.

Steve has taught ceramics across mental health, special needs and nursery to adult level. As well as accredited degree level courses.

He has also run specialist workshops in wheel throwing and Raku and paper kiln firing. Steve says "Ceramics is multi-dimensional, it can connect us physically and personally to an inspiring cultural world and material universe".

How will I learn?

Students new to ceramics will be guided through the basic principles of throwing, hand building, ceramic sculpture and glazing. A project will be offered, but you may come with your own ideas. More experienced students will negotiate projects with the tutor. Discussion sessions around work in progress, exhibitions and ceramic work will help to clarify ideas.
