Emphasis will also be made on linking contemporary and traditional art forms. It is expected that the class will be made up of students with mixed levels of knowledge and prior experience. Students who are new to art history will build a good, general art historical vocabulary and learn about basic style recognition and central issues of importance to this subject. Intermediate/advanced students will build upon existing knowledge and focus on (among other things) close image analysis, art historical methodologies and gallery culture.
