A Brief History of Women in Art

The conscious-raising politics of the 1960s provoked feminist debate amongst academics and artists who challenged the conventional fine-art canon. These movements not only sought to promote equality for women, but also exposed the lack of women’s voices in Western history.
In this course you will gain an introductory understanding of the ‘problematic’ Western Art Canon. We will approach the topic first by offering a series of Online historical lectures that aim to champion neglected women artists. Then, through this lens we will look at case studies and revised feminist scholarship by the likes of Griselda Pollock, Linda Nochlin, and Lucy Lippard, to understand their impact on the creative industry.
