The aim is to prepare students for the full Access to Higher Education Diploma, whilst securing L2 qualifications in English and Maths (GCSEs). The Pre-Access course will also introduce you to some of the topics you will study on the full Access Diploma, as well as helping you to develop academic writing skills. We want you to develop your knowledge and skills, but also to build new relationships, confidence and self-esteem. The course is delivered over three days and will allow you to complete your GCSEs in English and Maths, as well as studying a number of units that will help you to develop your study skills.
What do I need to join?
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but you should be able to demonstrate that you are able to operate at Level 1. There is no need to panic, as you will be supported at every stage of the programme. If you are a mature student who is looking to start a new career, then this course is perfect for you. Take your first steps towards your new career whilst gaining valuable experience, knowledge and skills.
How will I know how I am doing?
Assessments will be through assignments and a portfolio of evidence. You will complete units of work in psychology, sociology and information technology (IT). GCSE exams will be taken in English and/or Maths.
What can I do next?
On successful completion of the Pre-Access course and after securing Maths and English GCSE at grade 4 or above, you will be able to progress onto the Access to Higher Education courses offered at the College. Some of the pathways require vocational experience alongside academic qualifications, and these will be discussed with you as part of the Pre-Access course. Please note that some Access courses require you to pass additional tests, such as an additional maths test for entry to the Access to Science pathway.Apply for this course
