The BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development is intended for learners who want to progress directly to employment, including self-employment, in sports coaching and development roles. It is also designed for those wishing to progress to Higher Education (University Programmes). Learners taking this qualification will study six mandatory units: Careers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry Health, Wellbeing and Sport Developing Coaching Skills Applied Coaching Skills Sport Development Self-Employment in Sport and Physical Activity. ?

This is a career-focused qualification with industry endorsement and accreditation. It enables learners to develop underpinning knowledge, to gain experience as a coach and to build skills to impact positively on sports development programmes. The qualification is endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), which has confirmed that the qualification is fully mapped to its professional standards of ‘Coach’ and ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children’.
All courses include opportunities for learners to experience working in a sport based environment; this may be with employers, a community project or a project within the college campus. This gives learners the opportunity to develop their skills in their chosen subject and will assist with progression choices.
What can I do next?
Upon completion of the course, this qualification prepares learners to study on one of our higher education degree programmes at SGS or, alternatively you may apply to other education institutions. You could also enter employment in the sport, leisure and recreation industry or apply for an apprenticeship.Apply for this course
